Negotiations progressing as expected…

Our WTPU negotiators had a training session last week with a local Federal Mediation Service agent and Spirit's Negotiation Team: Adam Pogue, Kelly Monk (pictured with me, above), Jan Steinert, Jerry Vaughn and Clark Sellens. The last team member, Charlie McKinny, was on assignment in Tulsa and had to beg off.

While it was more of an informal "getting to know you" get together for the teams, I think both of have a better understanding of appropriate communication processes going forward, which should make negotiations smoother. "Easier" remains to be seen…

The short version: Boeing has publicly admitted that it put the second 787 production line in South Carolina because its IAM employees in Washington state have chosen in the past to exercise their protected right to strike under the National Labor Relations Act. Unfortunately for Boeing, it's against the law to retaliate against employees for engaging in actions that are protected by Federal Law (i.e., the right to strike). The NLRB has, therefore, filed a complaint against Boeing, demanding that Boeing relocate the second 787 Production Line back to Washington, where it rightfully belongs.

Millionaires Club, Part 3...

Spirit AeroSystems Holdings, Inc. today announced that it intends to commence a public secondary offering of 10,307,375 shares of class A common stock. The Company will not receive any proceeds from the offering. The shares are being offered primarily by affiliates of Onex Corporation (“Onex”) and members of management of the Company.

Well, isn't this nice… it looks like we're going to be getting another peek at the magnitude of bonuses our executives have been giving themselves for the past couple of years. I sure do hope the filing happens while we're still in WTPU negotiations and the Company is telling us how we have to give something back because they just can't afford to maintain our benefits.
