FTFY...

There's a really good article out on the Puget Sound Business Journal website where Ms Prez Cole tears into Boeing for not giving SPEEA engineers any credit for all the rework they've been doing to correct 787's international suppliers mistakes. The gist of her argument is that all the rework SPEEA engineers have to do makes makes our members look far less efficient than they really are -- what with having to spend time-and-a-half to get their work and the suppliers' done -- and requests that Boeing start working with the union to track the cost of the labor SPEEA engineers are spending to fix Boeing partners' mistakes.

(Boeing's response was to state "We do routinely evaluate the quality of work done by suppliers as well as all SPEEA engineers, but we don’t share the results of that evaluation publicly," which I took to mean "Our outsourcing model really sucks, or we'd be shouting our success from the rooftops")

-- Bill, who's sure glad his Spirit Aerosystems employer gets a pass as one "of the partners [who] are mature in what they do, and those things are fine"...
