Back to the drawing board...

Spirit's first offer was overwhelmingly rejected: 96.5% of the 700+ members casting ballots voted "NO." I hope now the Company might believe us that this really wasn't the "fair and equitable" contract they've been saying it is.

Wow!

I think they need to scrap the idea of a 9 1/2 year contract. They need to try and agree on a 4 or 5 year contract that would be fair to both sides. 9 1/2 years is way too long of a time frame to predict what the economic conditions will be.

Don't know if this is exactly the right "forum" to ask this, but what exactly does it mean to be working without a contract? Will our insurance continue? If it extends past Labor Day, will we still get that day off paid, or unpaid (or have to work)? Can the company push any agenda they wish on us now? There doesn't seem to be any motivational benefit for them to come back to the table, if that's the case :/ .

Thanks for the last comment, "Anonymous." We'll work the get a message out that discusses "working without a contract" but, in the meantime, I really appreciate your post here. I've been telling the Company all during negotiations that my coworkers think only the worst of their executive management's intentions and your post reinforces that message. If they truly want a relationship of "collaboration and cooperation" that they state in their proposed contract, they'll work to fix this.

-- Bill, who's waiting for all the posturing rhetoric to subside and getting back to work on a fair and equitable contract...

Old Chinese proverb. It can be very difficult to make a meal appetizing again after one has peed all over it.

Someone should've told Spirit's waiters about that proverb, before they tried serving us a meal covered in urine.

I don't know that I'd blame the high uric acid content the waitstaff serving the meal as much as I would the chefs in the background who prepared it.

-- Bill, who couldn't find a suitable Fight Club reference...

My reasons for rejecting the contract is very clear. 9.5 year contract is too long. 5-6 years is reasonable.

I've noticed that virtually no updates have been left by SPEEA since negotiations have started back up. Is this intentional for sensitivity reasons? Is there really nothing new to report? I thought I heard that a counter-proposal was being given to the company once the talks started back up. Will this be public for the members to see? Thanks
